"10 Ways to Be Spiritual. Regardless!" A New Workshop for New York!


WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 17, 2011 - 7:00-9:30pm


While the new Spiritual Workout web site waits to be born, I'm using this blog as a place to describe, in greater detail than can fit on a flier, a brand new workshop called "10 Ways to Be Spiritual. Regardless!" It's a celebration of two firsts: it's the first presentation of this brand new Spiritual Workout Workshop and the first Spiritual Workout event of any kind in New York City! For those who don't know, this is where I'm from and I am thrilled to be back in town - for several months - to spread the good Spiritual Workout word.

One of the things I constantly hear from clients and students and people on the street is that practicing the concepts that the Spiritual Workout espouses (see above) is really hard, if not impossible, when one is in the thick of a crisis. My response is that crises - or whatever one might call the "challenges" s/he is facing - are precisely when we need to practice them the most. These concepts, while not necessarily a panacea, aren't necessarily not a panacea either! They make life make sense and when do we need life to make sense more than when we are up against what life is throwing at us? Not to mention that often our greatest challenges are repeats of previous challenges and part of practicing the "10 Ways" is about breaking a cycle if, indeed, a cycle exists.

I would say this workshop is perfect for you if you happen to be going through something that is particularly challenging or heavy or what you would call a crisis. Absolutely. Yet it is also appropriate for anyone who is not necessarily in the thick of something now because, certainly, you have been before and you very likely will be again. If you are in the thick of something, things you will learn in the workshop will be able to be applied immediately to whatever is happening. And if you are not dealing with something that is particularly critical, you will have the space to let the information sink in so it's there and ready for you if and when you ever need it. Bottom-line, the ideas we'll be discussing work for us all the time, regardless of what is happening in your life. :)

In the workshop you will receive a piece of paper with each of the "10 Ways" on it - for note-taking during the workshop and for reference when you are home. We will go through them individually, spending several minutes on each one and I think you will agree that they are each deep and compelling enough to be workshops of their own! I will be at the ready with general examples from people's life experiences to use as fodder and will unceremoniously dump them the instant you or anyone offers up something specific you would like to have addressed that night. That, you will learn, is my obsession!

Having heard about all ten ways to "be spiritual," we'll take a very short break during which you will be asked to focus on one of the ways that was just presented, one that resonates with you in a particular way and/or that you would like to explore further and/or learn more about. You'll break up into groups with others who are focusing on the same one - however that organically happens - and I will go around to each group to answer questions and help you relate the concept to your particular experience.

Then we'll come back and hear a bit from the other groups about what they have learned and have Q&A with the remaining time. I've scheduled the workshop for 2-1/2 hours, but we will have another 30 minutes to linger afterward for anyone who cares to.

This is personal development work as you have likely not experienced before and I am eager to present it to you. For the record, it is also a perfect introduction to my regular Spiritual Workout class, which will be offered on the following two Wednesdays from 7-8:30p at the same location.
